Struzzi Announces Over $170,000 in School Safety Funding to Area School Districts
November 16, 2020
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) today announced that school districts in the 62nd Legislative District have been awarded $171,834 in Safe Schools Target Grants, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). Grants are awarded to schools to prevent and reduce violent incidents, to purchase safety and security-related equipment, and to provide for the training and compensation of school resource and police officers.
The following school in the 62nd Legislative District received funds:
• Homer Center School District - $64,994.
• Indiana Area School District - $42,996.
• Penns Manor School District - $25,000.
• Purchase Line School District - $48,455.
• United School District - $38,840.
“It’s no secret that children learn, and teachers teach, at their highest potential when they are in a comfortable environment. These added security measures will help students and teachers feel safer, and more comfortable, in schools, allowing them to do their jobs to the best of their abilities,” said Struzzi. “As a father of four, it’s reassuring to know that Pennsylvania is committed to the safety of our public schools.”
More than $9 million total will be awarded to Pennsylvania schools through the program this year. PDE’s program is separate from the School Safety and Security Grant program administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
