House Committee Agrees with Struzzi Request to Examine Statewide Public Transit Options
10/31/2023
HARRISBURG – Indiana County is very fortunate to have the IndiGO Bus system, but state Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) sees public transit needs which still exist.

“I recently participated in a simulation where I was asked to play the role of someone with a substance abuse disorder,” said Struzzi. “In attempting to complete tasks such as getting to appointments, holding down a job and carrying out ‘my’ court-appointed responsibilities, I discovered that missing the bus can mean violating probation, losing that job and enduring a severe setback in trying to again become a productive member of society.”

Struzzi has authored a measure which would direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC) to conduct a study and issue a report on the state of mass/public transit in Pennsylvania’s rural communities. House Resolution 174 may now be considered by the full House following unanimous passage Monday by the House Transportation Committee.

“Mass transit is far from being an issue strictly for big city residents,” Struzzi added. “So many people in both rural and urban settings depend on public transportation for employment and everyday needs such as grocery shopping and medical appointments.”

The LBFC would have 12 months after the adoption of this resolution to present the General Assembly with its findings and recommendations.

Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Struzzi’s Indiana district office at 724-465-0220.
