Struzzi to Honor Memory of Robindale Community
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) is looking to recognize the challenges and fortitude of a local community by renaming an Indiana County roadway in its honor.
“The tight-knit town of Robindale was torn apart by the Johnstown flood of 1977 and other tragedies, but the people who lived there are a resilient community linked by these memories and a commitment to honoring their past in positive way,” said Struzzi. “I’d like to recognize their diligence and service legislatively by renaming a section of Power Plant Road.”
Struzzi’s
House Bill 1866 would rename the intersection where that road and Routes 711 and 56 meet as the Robindale Memorial Highway. The town is located on a bend near the Conemaugh River between Seward and New Florence in Indiana County.
Struzzi reflected, “Robindale has a tremendous albeit tragic history. It grew and prospered from its origin in the early 1900s as a town created out of the Conemaugh Smokeless Coal Company. Robindale endured two tragic mining accidents and lives lost because of them, as well as two severe floods which preceded the one in 1977.
“It’s a story about people and I’d like to keep that story fresh in the thoughts of residents and visitors,” he added.
Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Struzzi’s Indiana district office at 724-465-0220.
