Struzzi Receives Committee Assignments for New Session
January 18, 2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) today announced that he has been appointed to served on the House Appropriations, Human Services, Insurance and Urban Affairs committees for the 2019-20 legislative session. Struzzi was sworn into office for his first term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Jan. 1.
“Committee work is one of my major responsibilities as a lawmaker,” said Struzzi. “I am looking forward to crafting legislation that will benefit the people of the 62nd Legislative District, as well as attempting to stop any legislation that may have harmful or unintended consequences for our citizens.”
As all state budget legislation must originate in the House of Representatives, the House Appropriations Committee is the primary committee of the General Assembly tasked with overseeing state government spending, state fiscal policies and developing a state budget each fiscal year.
The House Human Services Committee has oversight of issues within the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs. Among the issues it has dealt with is legislation to address the heroin and opioid overdose crisis by trying to prevent these powerful drugs from getting into the wrong hands.
“Addiction touches all ages, genders and socioeconomic statuses,” said Struzzi. “Like many, I have been affected personally by this epidemic and I will work with community, state and federal leaders to combat this crisis and save lives.”
The House Insurance Committee helps oversee the Insurance Department and ensure any legislation running through the House that pertains to insurance matters is studied with extreme care.
As a member of the Urban Affairs Committee, Struzzi will be involved in issues affecting the state’s cities and local governments including housing; urban redevelopment; economic development; land use planning and zoning; growth management; infrastructure financing; and city services such as police, fire, sewage and water.
“I am very pleased with my committee assignments,” said Struzzi. “Each of these committees addresses issues important to all of us. It is now time to get to work.”
