HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives today adopted legislation, authored by Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana), which would direct the Joint State Government Commission to study the impact of behavioral health treatment needs, and behavioral health care system capacity, on hospital emergency departments and patient health. Currently, no such study exists.
“As we work to address the opioid crisis in the Commonwealth, we need to have a firm understanding of our capacity to treat those who need treatment, and where we need to improve,” said Struzzi. “We want to help these individuals once again become productive members of society. In order to do that, we must understand our health care system’s shortcomings and equip treatment providers with the resources they need to improve.”
The House adopted the resolution unanimously with a vote of 192-0.
